Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot Launches

Vodafone has launched a new Wireless Mobile broadband hotspot. The mobile WiFi, or MiFi, allows up to 5 wireless devices to attach up to it and share a 3G or HSDPA signal depending on the area where you use it.

The Vodafone model is made by the same company who make the Three MiFi, Huawei and works very similar to the Three model in that you switch it on, it connects to a 3G or HSDPA network and then allows up to five wireless devices to easily connect. Unlike the older mobile broadband modems that required you install software to connect up to the 3G services, the MiFi models have software built in that connects up for you and allow anybody to connect by entering the correct encryption key.

Netronix PocketBook 602 eBook Reader

Netronix will soon release the PocketBook 602 eBook reader in the US. The FCC just approved the device for launch.

The PocketBook 602 has a six inch screen that uses e-Ink to display text and images. Processor wise it has a 532MHz Freescale ARM11 processor. Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a 3G/3.5G wireless data connection. The OS running on the device is a custom build of Linux.

The eBook reader supports several file formats which include PDF, ePUB, FB2, HTML, TXT, PRC, MOBI, RTF, DOC, JPG, and MP3 file formats.

Huawei E583C Mobile WiFi Hotspot

Huawei is launching a new MiFi device that can connect up to HSPA 3.5G networks.
The new WiFi hotspot allows up to five wireless devices to connect up at the same time to share the 3.5G connection. If using the USB port on the device to tether it to a laptop, this allows up to six devices to share the connection.
Design wise, the new 3.5G MiFi hotspot looks great. With speeds of 5.67Mbps upstream and 7.2Mbps downstream a possibility it is also quite fast, dependent on signal of course.
Other features on the device include a microSD slot for storage (up to 32GB) as well as the addition of a 1 inch OLED screen to provide details of connectivity and battery life.

Clear iSpot 4G Hotspot for iPad and iPhone

The Clear iSpot is a mobile 4G hotspot designed to allow smartphones and tablets to connect to the internet at 4G speeds.
The device is designed for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and when those devices connect over a WiFi connection, they are then capable of accessing the internet at 4G speeds rather than the 3G speeds that currently can restrict them.
The iSpot is capable of allowing up to eight wireless devices to connect up to it and has been optimised for Apple  products. We are not sure what that exactly means, but we assume any WiFi device with a fast enough connection will be able to get the same benefits from it.
The device is powered by battery and charged by a USB connection.

GlobusGPS release a new ebook reader with wifi connectivity called GlobusBOOK 750. It has 6-inch touchscreen e-ink screen with 800×600 pixel resolution, powered by 532MHz FreeScale processor and 128MB of RAM.

The GlobusBOOK 750 also has 512MB onboard memory, SD/MMC/SDHC card slot up to 32GB, USB 2.0 interface, built-in speaker, 3.5-mm headphone jack, Li-Ion battery and wifi 802.11 b/g.

If you’ve had your eye on a compact clamshell MID and had some interest in the Viliv N5, then your wait is over as it is now available through the online shopping site Dynamism. Pre-orders for the N5 MID have begun with the price set at $649.

On last check, the item was not seen on either the New Egg or Amazon website, but it will most likely appear on these sites shortly. The Dynamism $649 price will get you an N5 that will have a 4.8-inch touchscreen display, Intel Atom Z520 1.3GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, a 32GB solid state drive (SSD), WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS. It is also Flash ready and supports 720p HD video playback.

There is also another model that comes with an HSPA modem, but this one will cost an extra $100.

Samsung i9200 Galaxy S2

Unconfirmed reports today have surfaced to provide some insight into Samsung’s new mobile phone, the i9200 Galaxy S2. The S2 which will come with some impressive hardware features when it debuts in 2011 is said to be the replacement for the Galaxy S and all of its variants.

What the rumors reveal is a handset that will include a 2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM. It will also have integrated 32GB flash memory, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED 2 touchscreen display with 1280×720 pixel resolution, an 8 megapixel camera with high definition video recording, GPS support, Bluetooth 3.0 technology, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n network connectivity as well as an audio jack and a series of sensors (both proximity and ambient light). We will also see the Samsung i9200 Galaxy S2 debut with Google Android 3.0 (codenamed Gingerbread).

ezGear is launching a new tablet computer called the SurfBoard. The SurfBoard 700 runs Google Android. It comes with a 7 inch screen as well as WiFi for connectivity.

The SurfBoard is designed to browse the internet, correspond via email and watch movies in high resolution. As the device is Android OS based, it allows you to download apps from the Market to further enhance the device.

Technical features of the SurfBoard 700 show that it has a two megapixel camera that can capture still pictures and digital video. The front of the device is home to controls to help you navigate through the device which also include a built in mouse.

The SurfBoard 700 weighs 17.63 ounces and measures just over half an inch thick. With the device having a 7 inch screen it makes it relatively easy to hold in one hand while working on it. The 7 inch screen has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

Connectivity of the device includes USB 2.0, USB OTG, HDMI output and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Battery life is quite impressive with the SurfBoard being capable of 20 hours music and 10 hours of video.

Cisco Cius High Definition Tablet With Android OS

The Apple iPad is widely recognized as a consumer level gizmo, one that is more then capable of meeting a users multimedia and ebook requirements. Cisco on the other hand has announced their Cius, an Android tablet that aims to meet the needs of corporate clients.

In this regards, the Cius includes both a front 30fps 720p video camera and a 5MP rear facing camera, has high definition output, supports WiFi and 3G network connections and can be purchased with an optional dock that includes an integrated speakerphone. The unit is meant to offer employees a telework presence as it weighs just 1.15lbs, is small enough to fit into a briefcase and “offers HD video streaming and real-time video, multi-party conferencing, email, messaging, browsing, and the ability to produce, edit and share content stored locally or centrally in the cloud.” We should begin to see the Android tablet in early 2011 and although the price is not available, it’s believed the tablet will be under $1000 making it a possible alternative to laptops or desktop computers for the mobile workforce.

HP has launched the TouchSmart 600 multi-touch tablet PC. The HP TouchSmart 600 runs Windows 7 Home Premium, has a 23 inch 1080p Full HD display and runs Intel Core 2 Duo Processors (or Core i3 and i5).

For connectivity it has WiFi built in as well as a BlueTooth connection.

To make use of the large screen as a TV, an optional TV card can be purchased with the TouchSmart 600 allowing you to tune in to TV channels as well as record them if needed.

Overall it appears to be quite an impressive package. With the added touchscreen it allows (in some cases) easier navigation around the PC and adds an extra layer of control.

Sony VAIO J All-In-One PC

Sony has launched a new AIO computer in the VAIO J all-in-one PC which will be available for $900. The Vaio J includes a touchscreen display that measures 21-inches and supports a screen resolution of 1920×108 pixels.

The Vaio J is available with a certain degree of user customization including the inclusion of an optical drive and choice of processor chip included (up to Intel Core i7 CPU). The AIO will come with 8GB RAM, integrated WiFi (802.11 b/g/n) network support, NVIDIA GeForce video card as well as a webcam that supports face tracking technology.

The Vaio J will also come with a choice of operating systems, either Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional 64 bit.

Sony Ericsson X10 Shakira Android Based Smartphone

Sony Ericsson appear to be adding a new device to the Sony Ericsson X10 line according to a gadgets blog.

The new device is said to be called the Sony Ericsson X10 Shakira and joins three other X10 phones which are the SE X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro.

Just as the other X10 devices, the X10 Shakira will also run Google Android for it’s OS. The device it’s self appears to sit somewhere between the X10 and the X10 Mini and will feature a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Only on the island country of Japan will Sony be releasing a new version of their Vaio P laptop computer that comes with a crocodile skin design, making it look more like a high end handbag or purse.

Pricing wasn’t listed for the Sony device, but it’s unlikely to be cheap due to it’s finish. On the hardware side, the notebook will have an Intel Atom Z560 processor and packs a 250GB solid state hard drive (SSD), accelerometer, WiFi and Bluetooth network connectivity and an 8-inch screen display that supports a 1600 x 768 pixel resolution.

The Windows 7 Home Premium laptop will also come with Sony Remote Play software as well as an optional long life battery that will deliver 12.5 hours of up time.

BenQ Joybook R48

BenQ has announced a new laptop to its lineup. Their latest is the BenQ Joybook R48, a notebook that comes with an Intel Core i3 processor as well as a 14-inch screen display that offers 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio.
BenQ has also introduced Hyper-Threading Technology2 in the R48 which will certainly improve overall performance. Optionally, users can choose both their RAM configuration up to a maximum of 4GB as well as the hard drive size, which can be as large as 500GB.
The R48 also includes the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 GPU, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi support, an HDMI port, 1.3MP webcam, eSATA card slot and optional Bluetooth 2.1 support.
