3TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk External Drive

Posted by Cool Gadgets On July - 2 - 2010

Seagate has introduced their new FreeAgent GoFlex Desk drive, an external hard drive that has 3TB of storage space. It wasn’t to long ago when the 1TB hard drives were touted as being sufficient for a home users multimedia needs but with the number of digital cameras and high definition video cams, bigger seems to be better.

Just how big is the new Seagate drive? It can hold 120 high definition movies but out of the box, the drive comes with only USB 2.0 support so transfer speeds will not be optimal. However, there are optional upgrades to Firewire 800 or USB 3.0 available and these will come with an additional cost. Compatible with both the Windows and Mac operating system, the 3TB drive includes a driver disk that will allow users to take an NTFS or Windows-formatted drive and enable it for read/write access on a Mac. This is an option for users that are unwilling or unable to format the drive using the Mac’s HFS+ (Mac OS Extended) file system.

$250 is what it will cost to buy the 3TB hard drive and an additional $20-$50 will be required for each optional connectivity interface.

Apple iPad used as Secondary Display via WiFi

Posted by Cool Gadgets On May - 20 - 2010

Avataron has created an app that allows your Apple iPad to function as a secondary monitor for your Mac. The app is called Air Display and uses the WiFi built in to the iPad to transmit data to and from the Mac.
Simply put, it extends the desktop on your Mac allowing you to drag windows across to the iPad as and when needed. Another interesting feature of the application is it’s ability to use the touchscreen of the iPad as a mouse to control the mac if needed.
The application isn’t available just yet and is going to be submitted to Apple  next week for approval. If approved you’ll get the ability to use the iPad as a mini screen assuming you also install the app on your Mac to allow the two to communicate together.
When launched, the Air Display app will cost $9.99. Lets just hope this one gets approved as it sounds like a very handy application to have and would certainly make use of the extra screen space sitting on your desktop more than likely just showing the slide to unlock bar.

Waterproof Silicon Power A70 External Hard Drive

Posted by computers On April - 2 - 2010

If you have a portable external hard drive, you probably realize that there is a greater risk of data loss as you move the drive from one place to another. If you happen to take the drive with you on your travels outside of the home, this risk is compounded even further, especially if the drive isn’t packaged properly as there is a chance of shock damage from being bumped or possibly dropped.
Silicon Power has come out with a new offering in their A70 external HDD, a rugged drive that is impact, water and vibration resistant as well as being dust proof. As a result of this, you can take comfort in knowing that the drive would probably survive if you happen to spill a glass of water at your desk, or perhaps took the drive out of the home and were caught in a rainstorm. Off course, no drive is 100% perfect and though the A70 drive offers a greater degree of protection, it’s still prudent to perform regular data backups be it to DVDs, cloud storage or to some other preferred backup solution. Soundwave, the underwater MP3 player

Posted by admin On July - 23 - 2009

Those who are irremediably in love with their iPods or MP3 players, please raise their hands! Ok, there are many hands in the air, maybe more than I would have expected, but let me break a bad news to all of you out there: if you want to take your tunes swimming, scuba-diving, water-skiing or any other aqua sport, you won’t be able to take your device with you, because your precious iPod might instantly drown. So you’d better find something that is submersible so that you can swim with music in your ears. Literally.

Soundwave, the underwater MP3 player

Fortunately, the Soundwave from Freestyle Audio has you covered, as it is an MP3 player that can go underwater for about 10 feet. It is also shock-resistant, yet is lightweight enough to float in water. Freestyle Audio’s rugged and durable MP3 player redefines portable music. The world’s only waterproof and shockproof MP3 player is designed to fuel an active lifestyle, no matter the activity, intensity or destination. Wherever life may take you, the device allows you to bring your favorite music along for the ride.

This underwater MP3 player may not look as trendy or sophisticated as an iPod, but it’s durable and hearty. Its blue hard plastic shell with black rubbery buttons and grip is perfect for any outdoorsy adventurer. More than that, it can be used with supplied sizeable waterproof earbuds, because what’s the use of such a device if you don’t have the right headphones?

Soundwave, the underwater MP3 player

The Soundwave supports MP3, WMA and protected WMA (DRM) files and holds and plays up to 320 songs; the MP3 files can easily be downloaded using the USB interface. In addition, the device is compatible with Subscription Music Services, features an OLED screen to display track details, a FM radio tuner with channel presets, equalizer presets, a built-in rechargeable battery. The package includes the MP3 player, waterproof earbuds with adjustable ear-wraps and three separated sized ear-pieces, a USB cable for charging battery and loading music and the user guide. So, if you’re the “water music” type of guy, you might enjoy this underwater MP3 player which can be purchased from Freestyle Audio’s official website for $89.95.

The Brass Cross USB Drive

Posted by admin On July - 22 - 2009

There are quite a few things that people should never turn into derision and religion is one of those things. I really don’t see the use of focusing on delicate subjects and then converting them into bad jokes. But maybe it’s just me and maybe people don’t take it very serious and they would never think that this Brass Cross USB Drive is some sort of a blasphemy, as I’ve been tempted to consider it.

The Brass Cross USB Drive

More than that, I’m sure that some of you would find it a good looking gift for your best friends. It’s just that this weird device is aimed at Christians and at Christians only, because the ancient symbol of the humanity is used in this religion as a fundamental sign.

Still, it’s a good thing that the USB drive isn’t entirely covered with all sorts of diamonds and other bright and shiny little precious stones. The designers decided to adorn this piece of technology with just a couple of crystals and to give it an antique brass look.

The Brass Cross USB Drive

The main advantage of the Brass Cross USB Flash Drive is that, compared to any other similar devices that have small amounts of storage, this one comes with 8 GB, which is pretty impressive. In this given context, you will have to deal with the bad looks of this wearable Cross and have it hang around your neck with the adequate pride. This means you will have to make up your mind between looks and functionality.

The Brass Cross USB Flash Drive works with Windows, Mac and Linux and it’s compatible with systems like Windows 98SE / Me / 2000 / XP / Vista, Mac OS 10.x or future versions, Linux 2.4.2 or newer. Supporting a wide variety of files formats that can be stored on the Cross, the chain has a universal size that is of 28 inches.
