HP Pavilion dv6

Posted by vitya On January - 25 - 2012

The HP Pavilion dv6 is one of the latest notebooks equipped with the new second-generation Core i7-2630QM that features both integrated as well as discrete graphics hardware. In accordance with HP’s new design direction, some attention has also been paid to the way it looks. Dressed in a “dark umber metal finish”, the HP dv6 looks more expensive than it really is, with the finishing on both the lid and palm rest.

As far as connectivity goes, the HP dv6 isn’t lacking in any way, with the usual ports taking up residence on the left and right of the notebook. Notable inclusions are the two USB3.0 ports, and an extra audio jack –which is provided to consumers under the “Beats” brand, one of the key selling points of the multimedia machine. Sound from the quartet of built-in speakers sounded clear and sharp, and especially potent when earphones are plugged in. Read the rest of this entry »

HP Pavilion dv6

Posted by vitya On December - 16 - 2011

HP’s Pavilion range has always Keen the plastic, slightly tubby cousin to the luxurious Envy, hut that’s all set 10 change. After a quick trip to the panel heaters, the Pavilion dv6 has a new metal-clad look that should finally get the competition looking jealously over its shoulder.

It isn’t a ground-up transformation, hut the dv6 looks and feels all the better for some attention. Dark brushed metal seeps across the lid, punctuated only by the glowing 111′ logo in the corner, and while the strip of light around the touchpad looks great, it isn’t only for show: it also indicates when the touchpad is active.

The I.S.6111 display is a solid performer, too. Contrast is good -we measured it at 249:1 – and images and movies look crisp. Read the rest of this entry »

HP Envy 14

Posted by vitya On November - 29 - 2011

The HP Envy 14 is a laptop that struggles to match its colossal price tag with the performance it should offer. It’s a well-built machine which is great to use, but falls down with a series of weak points that confused and dismayed in equal measure.

Inside this machine is a Core i7 processor but, unfortunately, it’s part of the older family of Intel chips, which means that performance is significantly hampered in comparison to the Acer 5750 which sports the new Sandy Bridge model. The older design, coupled with the slower clock speed, means that the HP lags behind the competition in terms of performance, making it less attractive as a future-proof buy for a similar price you could get a MacBook Pro or Dell XPS 15Z, which are both fantastic performers.

HP ProBook 6465b

Posted by admin On November - 16 - 2011

The most appealing aspect of a small-business laptop is that it includes most of the features of an enterprise system, yet costs much less. The HP Pro-Book 6465b is one such example, where every standard feature is accounted for, and the price is too sweet for IT managers to pass up. As an added bonus, it’s also one of the first laptops to feature AMD’s newest A6 Fusion processors (codenamed “Llano”). Though it didn’t perform as well as an Intel CPU-based SM B laptop like the Dell Vostro 3350, the 6465b has enough in features to get IT managers interested. Read the rest of this entry »

HP TouchPad (Wi-Fi)

Posted by admin On September - 21 - 2011

While iPad competitors like the Motorola Xoom and RIM BlackBerry PlayBook basked in the spotlight these past few months, HP worked quietly in the background, readying its webOS-based Touch-Pad for release. Unlike Motorola and RIM, HP held off on the release until all major features were ready. Good decision. Read the rest of this entry »

HP TouchPad

Posted by Cool Gadgets On August - 11 - 2011

THE HP TouchPad (£399 inc. VAT) promised to be an exciting new competitor in the tablet market. Powered by WebOS, it’s a refreshing change from the army of Android tablets, but sluggish performance in a market dominated in the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab hobble what should have been a market-leading tablet. It doesn’t stray far from the mould set by the iPad and adopted by the rest of the tablet world. At all-black glass front houses the 9.7-inch multi-touch screen, which has a resolution of 1024 x 768. Above it (in portrait mode) is a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Sadly, there is no rear camera on the TouchPad. Read the rest of this entry »

HP 100B All-in-One PC

Posted by Cool Gadgets On August - 8 - 2011

The master of all-in-one desktop PCs is HP. In addition to its more innovative (and expensive) TouchSmart models, the HP 100B All-in-One PC shows that HP can produce a business desktop that is both full-featured and economical. With its AMD Fusion APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), the 100B has enough power for day-to-day tasks, light multimedia creation work, and even some video.

The 100B is a standard-looking all-in-one desktop with the components built into the screen. With a whole lot of effort, you can remove the back panel in order to get into the desktop for component replacement. It’s capable of holding a larger hard drive and up to 8GB of memory (it ships with 2GB), though you’d have to remove the existing components to replace them with larger chips or hard drive. HP Mini 210

Posted by Cool Gadgets On July - 21 - 2011

HP’s Mini 210 is slightly more expensive than its super-cheap cousin, the 110, and at first glance only cosmetic changes justify the price hike. The 110′s glossy black has been replaced by a bright blue finish, and the matte interior has made way for chrome-effect plastic.

The 210 has a slicker-looking keyboard and trackpad. The traditional-style keys of the 110 have been replaced by a Scrabble-tile design, and it’s no bad thing: the gaps between the keys aid speedy typing, as do the firm base and responsive keys. The trackpad is just as good and, although we were skeptical about the decision to replace the 110′s physical buttons with a pair built into the trackpad, they’re almost as responsive. HP TouchSmart 610

Posted by Cool Gadgets On June - 8 - 2011

For all of Asus and Sony’s technological innovation, the two systems still rely on chassis designs that are tame compared toHP’sTouchSmart610.

It’s built around a solid base rather than a slanting stand, which enables its tilting 23in screen to take centre stage: pull it forward and the display hunkers down towards the desk, angled upwards; push it back and it reverts back to the standard upright pose. This makes it easy to operate from a standing or sitting position.

The software has been given a comprehensive facelift since the last generation. Gone are the huge icons, replaced by a freeform front-end with a carousel of apps running along the bottom, reminiscent of the Asus. Read the rest of this entry »
