OLIVE FLUID V-W1

Earlier this year, Olive announced India’s first Android smartphone on the Gingerbread platform but it failed to reach the markets. Now, the company has shifted focus to Fluid V-W1, an affordable Android device that will compete against Huawei Ideos and Samsung Galaxy Fit. Boasting a big, 3.5-inch capacitive touch display, it comes with plenty of connectivity options—3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. With support for Google Services such as Gmail, Gtalk, Google Search, YouTube and Android Market, it handles everything with ease. Since it is GPS-enabled, Google Maps takes care of basic routing. But the overall performance is a letdown as the Fluid was a bit slow. Operating on the outdated version of the Android OS, v2.1, it is powered by 468 MHz processor with 256 MB flash memory. When typing text using the QWERTY keypad in the portrait mode we ended up inputting the wrong alphabets. Thankfully, the 1300 mAh battery manages to give a day and a half on a single charge. That surely is the phone’s only saving grace.
