For over a decade now, Finnish phone manufacturers Nokia have been at the very top of the mobile telephone market. As technology has advanced though, several companies have been able to take advantage by releasing smartphones that have increased massively in popularity over the last couple of years. Companies such as Apple, with their iPhone, and HTC, who have developed popular phones such as the Desire, have been able to test Nokia and other traditional mobile companies’ domination of the market. Nokia are fighting back this year though with the release of their own latest smart phone the N8, so hold off on deciding which phone to buy this Christmas until you have read this review!
The N8 is not just the latest piece of hardware from the ever prolific Nokia, but also the first phone to utilise their latest incarnation of the Symbian OS, the Symbian^3. This has been seen as an attempt to help Symbian, which has been accused in certain circles of being a touch out of date, keep up with its rivals the iPhone OS and Android. Although the new operating system does make a lot of improvements compared to its predecessor, it must be said that it does nothing to force itself into genuine contention with the software giants of the mobile phone World.
The thing that does set the N8 apart from the rest of the mobile phones out there is definitely its camera. It has a remarkable 12 megapixel camera that comes with autofocus and Xenon flash, and it also shoots video in HD (1280x720p) quality at 25 fps. So, if you are a fan of taking lots of photos with your phone this could very well be the phone for you.
Overall, the Nokia N8 has both its up points and its down points, with the camera and HD playback being its main selling point and some aspects (though not all) of its OS, including the weak browser, letting it down. The N8 is a decent offering from Nokia, their best smartphone yet, but does still have a long way to go. See all the features the Nokia N8 has to offer at http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/ today.
