HTML5 Support For Android, iPhone Arrives At YouTube Mobile

Google has always been a strong backer of cloud computing technology and the search engine places a lot of emphasis on improving their web applications. Such is the case with YouTube Mobile which just got a slick redesign to better accommodate Android and iPhone devices alike.

Gone is Adobe Flash which has now been replaced by HTML5. The user interface has also seen improvements with the addition of like/dislike flags, custom playlists and recommended searches. The UI is also handheld device friendly with touchscreen support now integrated into the site.

There is a dedicated YouTube app for the iPhone, but with the advancements adopted on the YouTube Mobile site, many are saying that faster and better quality video playback can be achieved through the site when not on a WiFi network connection. The Apple App will work on a 2G connection and greater, but HTML5 requires at a minimum, 3G. It’s unlikely that we’ll see Google introduce support for RIM and Symbian products anytime soon as these devices have not fully integrated with HTML5 just yet.
