It appears that details about the Sony EX3 3D camcorder prototype have emerged this morning, including hardware specifications as well as images. There is also word that a commercial model is now on its way.

The Sony EX3 3D camcorder comes with a pair of lenses, with each lens sporting 3 CMOS chips. As the lens are from another Sony camera, namely the Sony PMW-EX3 studio cameras, each has the capability of recording in 1080p, 35Mbps 4:2:0 MPEG-2 video using the onboard SxS memory card. Also available is an uncompressed output quality of 4:4:4 video using a pair of HD-SDI outputs when recording in a fixed position.

Unique to the EX3 is also an industry leading 1.5-inch interocular distance, which is the distance between the pair of lenses. Details regarding pricing and a release date for the Sony EX3 ED camcorder are not available, but considering that the PMW-EX3 retails for $9,990, you can be assured that the new Sony model will not be a cheap camcorder.
