f you’ve ever used a dual screen display, you’ll quickly realize the advantages that this display setup offers and once you do, it’s pretty tough to go back to just a single screen. If you’re a fan of a dual display, but don’t have a second monitor at home, there is now a software solution available that will convert your Apple iPad or iPhone into a second display.
The application is called iDisplay which you install as an extension on your OS X desktop. The new extension tricks the operating system into thinking that a second display is now available for use. The interesting thing is that iDisplay utilizes a wireless network connection with data being transmitted between the two screens using a WiFi connection.
The setup of this system offers some benefits and also has some disadvantages. On the plus side, there are no wires and that’s always cool, especially with the Mac having such a minimalistic design to begin with. The flip side of the coin though is a wireless connection will be a bit slower then a direct connect. Hence, if you’re just working on a document or spreadsheet, you probably won’t notice any speed differences or lags, but you will not be able to play games or watch online videos where the graphics are constantly changing.
