Aleratec have created the Aleratec PortaCruiser HDD duplicator that makes 1:1 HD to HD duplication simple.
Although it’s not the most exciting of gadgets we cover here at GadgetVenue, it still is quite a handy device for those who want to make an exact copy of a hard drive quickly.
The PortaCruiser is a black device that has an LCD dot matrix screen in the middle and two hard drive docks, one on each side of the screen. The built in duplication software allows you to copy 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch hard drives for backup or replacement purposes.
As well as functioning as a drive duplicator the PortaCruiser also acts as a RAID controller allowing two drives to be mirrored and connected up to a PC with a USB 2.0 port. This extra functionality makes it more of a promising device as using it to just duplicate content would make it sit in a cupboard for most of it’s life in most cases.
