Sony has released recently a new camcorder, with 1080p HD recording capabilities, called the HDR-UX20. The new encoding system optimizes the balance between image definition and file size: it uses MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video codec so that it can be compatible with third party editing software like the Canopus Software products. The camcorder comes with Carl Zeiss Sonnar lens – with Sony we wouldn’t expect otherwise, support for 8cm dual layer DVD recording, a media card and 8GB of memory. The price ranges around $1000.
