One issue that a portable speaker system can face is the lack of stereo separation. The simplest way to solve this issue is designing the speaker systems in which speaker drivers are housed in separate units. This will make it easy to place the left and right channels away from each other. The Sony has used the same technique with its SRS-M50 Portable Speaker system. Inclusion of this design technique enables the system to provide better separation than any other ultraportable speaker system. Priced at $49.99, Sony SRS-M50 provides pretty good sound quality along with stylish design.

Though there is nothing revolutionary about the design of the speaker system but there are some noticeable touches. For example, each speaker unit has a pair of legs, which houses tabs and slots. The tabs and slots make it easier to put pack both units together during transport or storage. You will definitely miss the carrying case during the transport. The Sony should have included the carrying case as well as the batteries in the package. Though you can power the system with three AAA batteries or AC adapter but the batteries included with the package would have been a good addition.
As the features, speaker system consists of two 39mm full-range, magnetically shielded drivers. The inclusion of magnet drivers ensures that the system will work with music phones without any problem or interference. Both the drivers are located in their own “bass reflex” enclosure. Each of these enclosures is 3.1 inches tall, 2.7 inches across and 2.6 inches deep. Though the system is not that compact but is small enough to be classified as portable system. A 32-inch long cable connects both the speakers and a shorter cable coming out of the left channel has a 3.5mm straight plug for connecting the system with any music player with standard jack. The DC input, a power switch, and a volume knob are housed in the left box whereas the battery compartment is located on the back of the right box. The speakers system is available in three color options–pink, black, and white.
