Garmin has launched its first touchscreen handheld, which has exclusively been crafted for the golf course. The new Approach G5, the company, is a breakthrough in expansive outdoor fitness and recreation line. Boasting of the water-resistant Approach, Garmin says it comes with a touchscreen 3″ color display, which is capable of offering two easy choices once powered on: Play and Preview.
While at play, golfers can use the device to make out full course maps with exact distance info from their present location to hazards, greens and fairways. As its reviews, the Approach also keeps on updating your distances and position to each target as you walk the course. During the play, the touchscreen interface allows you to choose the best method in a lot of conditions.

Are you anxious on that fairway bunker? A single tap on the map shows you how much club you have to bear it – or how small if you choose to play it safe and sound. Besides, y you can drag your finger on the map to find the exact distance required to lay up for your right shot into the green. Plus, you can also focus on the green and reposition the flag to match with if the pin you have placed has come back.
Whether you are keeping track of your progress or just feel like bragging rights, the Approach claims to make it simple by j measuring the distance of your previous shot. Moreover, the Approach G5 can also be used to maintain the scores for your whole foursome utilizing the innate touchscreen digital scorecard.
Dan Bartel, VP of Garmin’s worldwide sales, was quoted as saying, “The Approach G5 shows golfers the precise distance to the center of green or other key course features, which can eliminate the guesswork and make club selection easier – key factors in improving any golfer’s score. There’s no other existing golf device that combines the ease of use, large color touchscreen and preloaded information featured in the Approach, all with no annual fees. Within minutes of opening the box, you can be ready to tee off.”
Powered by two AA batteries, and weighing just 6.8 ounces, the Approach G5 features a high-sensitivity GPS receiver and conforms with the rules of the R&A and USGA. The Approach G5 unit will be shipped by midyear with the price tag of around $500.
