Need a cool looking fountain in front of your new condominium? You could be opting for one of those sculpture-stuffed classic fountain, but how about this Vortex Fountain?

The Vortex Fountain is actually called Charybdis and it is designed by William Pye . Charibdis features a circular movement of water inside a transparent acrylic cylinder which forms an air-core vortex in the centre. There are steps that wrap around the cylinder and allow spectators to get a bird’s eye view of the vortex. Pye manufactured the cylinder in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Pye previously made similar fountains, but Charybdis is his largest vortex water sculpture to date. Some fountains were made out of glass and this is the second time Pye uses the clear acrylic polymer, previously employed only with the Clearwater Cube. This special material has allowed Pye to extend his sculptural skills and to explore more ways in which to challenge the wayward element of water. Pye explains that a high level of water filtration is essential for maintaining transparency and thereby expressing the powerful motion of the vortex.

I wonder if you could pull a gag on a poor pet with this one? Even kids can fit in the fountain, so you might want to keep an eye on them while playing around it.
