BMW GINA

Inflatable cars could prove to be a good green vehicle. I don’t know if BMW got inspired by these inflatable cars, but the renowned automotive manufacturer has some crazy idea on how to make a sports car way cheaper.

BMW GINA

BMW has recently revealed the GINA Light Visionary Model, which has a body covered by plastic-coated lycra material instead of light metallic alloys. The special plastic stretches over a metal frame with moving part, giving the car interesting shape-shifting properties. The shape of the body can be changed without tearing or loosening the fabric. Additionally, the steering wheel, gauges and headrest automatically move into the desired positions after the driver gets into the car.

According to Gizmodo, the car is not entirely new. It is actually based off a 4.4-liter Z8 with a six-speed automatic transmission. The body comprises only four large panels: the hood, sides and rear. Moreover, the material is water resistant, but I doubt it can really take even the slightest impact force. Shapeshifting isn’t radical, as the car can only alter things like adding or removing a spoiler, widening fenders or open and close the headlights. Check out the demo clip:
